Blog 5: Evergreen Studios
We are now working at Evergreen Podcast Studios in Lakewood, Ohio! It's a little out fo the way for both of us but we were so happy to be able to have an in-person experience with our mentors! We first came in and learned how to use the Pro-tools editing software with sound engineer Eric. We learned how to export, import, and upload audio files to Pro Tools.
After spending an hour learning the ins and outs of how to edit with Eric, we took a crack at it ourselves by starting the editing process by picking out clips from our interviews. This was a long process that actually took us a few days to do. Although we had taken the time to create a script where we could envision certain parts of our evidence to appear, it was still difficult to edit all of it because we liked so much of what we were hearing.
One tool that made this process a lot easier was happy scribe. The application (which Evergreen Podcasts graciously allowed us to use). Is an application that transcribes large audio files and lets you work on the text while playing the audio. It was really helpful because I could go to any part of the transcript
and play the audio at that part. It was extremely useful in making the editing process go a lot faster.
We also met with our mentor Brigid Coyne in-person for the first time, who has been so helpful in helping us schedule interviews, meet with other members of the team, and give us guidance on all the things we have to do in order to make this podcast a success. She gave us a tour of their studio and introduced us to the CEO Michael DeAloia. We also learned about Evergreen podcasts' history and their success in producing over 90 podcasts and garnering over 2 million in viewership in the past year. We also had a meeting with Sarah Willgrube who gave us some tips about writing and recording our script.
We have a lot to do, from finishing isolating interview clips, writing and recording our narration script, picking music, writing descriptions and a blog for Evergreen Podcasts to use to release it to the public, and, of
course, editing and mixing. However, I am so excited for this process and to see everything come to fruition!
